Hello everyone, Brunin here with some words for your face so listen up. After talking to Chase after he talked to Deze, it has become clear that we need to rethink what Minecarft is and what we hope to do with this community.
Back in the day, when I was a wee lad, and Maldes walked the earth, I was taken into a Minecraft server. I was introduced to a little boy whose voice was 5 years behind his age and whose gender to this day remains a scientific anomaly. That little boy was Deze. And the server I found myself in was Minecarft. Back then, the group of people on the server was quite a different crowd, and only three of those people remain. But when I joined, I found not only a server to derp around on and do fun things, but a community. A community of people gathered around one common interest and sharing many hours of fun together.
Well, I feel like that common interest has faded, or perhaps changed, but the community is still there. Which is great. However, branding ourselves as a "Minecraft server" is probably completely fucking wrong at this point. Let's be honest. The "server" itself is pretty lonesome and dead. I can't remember the last time I logged on and did something other than run around in circles and then immediately log off. There's nothing new for me to do. I've lost interest. Vanilla survival Minecraft no longer appeals to me.
So, what to do about this? Well Chase and I talked about a couple of ideas, and I decided to mention some of them here, prefaced by some fucking words for you to read. Aren't you glad I wasted your time? Me too. Now, let's get to the good shit.
FIRST! What do we do about Minecraft? The Minecarft community has deep roots in Minecraft, including the origin of the name. And I still think there is potential to have fun in Minecraft. But how? Well, here are some ideas:
- Modded Minecraft: Now I know what you're thinking. "Connor, who the fuck gave you all that acid you are obviously on?" And I can answer that. I know a guy. I also know that people cringe at the sound of "modded Minecraft." And so do I. But, I propose we not use a modpack like FTB or Tekkit that have 16,000 mods with stupid items that look like they were drawn by a 3 year old with Parkinson's in MS Paint. We can look around for mods that we want that we think would make things more interesting. Chase mentioned a couple and I know that buried in all the bullshit in the modding community, there is genuinely good stuff that could be interesting.
- Some sort of project: The most fun I have ever had in Minecraft was building minigame maps in creative with Malde several months before I was even a part of Minecarft. And I think we could benefit from something similar. Maybe an adventure map, maybe some PVP game, whatever we decide to make, it would be fun to work on SOMETHING together as a group that's not survival. Because everything is awesome. And everything is cool when you're part of a team.
SEGUNDO! We play other games. We should keep doing that. That's fun.
- Terraria: We've got great things going in Terraria, and while some people (*cough *cough Deze *cough *cough) can't play it, I think it offers a lot of fun in a game that is similar to Minecraft but more fun, harder, and more frequently updated.
- League of Legends: We have more people on LoL than the actual server for several weeks running. We even have people like Ariel who play LoL with us and don't even play Minecraft. A couple things I'd like to see us do with League are to keep playing, and maybe even play more since summer is cumming, and to get a 5's team together. Playing 5's in a team is so much more fucking fun than Q'ing up with randoms and getting matched with a dead gerbil face rolling on the keyboard before AFKing at 7 minutes. While roles still seem to be the main issue, we need to get on this shit right away.
- Other games: Chase and I have had many fun hours in TF2, that could be fun to do from time to time. WE NEED TO FIND OTHER GROUP GAMES THO. So let's do that.
LASTO DA YO! What do we do moving forward? Do we want the community to grow? Do we want to stay the same size? Do we want to try something new? I like the forum. It's a much better and more organized little thing than Skype. Teamspeak is cool too. But what else do we want to do? We used to make videos, but I've lost interest in that as have others, and not everyone can even do that. Chase has started streaming which I think is great. Streaming is fun, a fuck of a lot more personal, and really easy to do provided you don't have a potato computer or Comcast internet. We should get together and talk about ideas. This is just a stream-of-consciousness-of-bullshit from me with little forethought and feedback.
WTFL;DR,Ds(Way Too Fucking Long; Didn't Read, Dipshit): Minecraft boring. Do new shit. League ranked 5's needs to happen. Let's come up with ideas. It's 4am and why the fuck am I still up.
Thanks for putting up with this wall of bullshit.
Love and kisses,
Connor.
(Deze. Re-admin pls Deze. I'm soary.)
