Hey guys, I thought that since we have a handy global hub now, we can create a board devoted to letting people know where you are building. Example: Connor finds a piece of land he wants, but there is traces of a person being there. Now he can just check the land claim board and see that Thairen wants to build on the land. Therefore Connor can build there knowing that he has made Thairen sad! The board would be simple. If you find a piece of land you like and PLAN ON USING, take a screen shot of it, take down coordinates, and post it all to the land claim thread. Thoughts?

How about we simply do a server map google maps style? Not real time, no need, but just pull it from the server like once every 24 hours?

ALSO: I've moved this thread to a NEW board called "Server requests/Ideas". I think it's a bit more fitting to topics like these.

Unfortunately, the only dynamic map systems that don't use Bukkit require you to host a server running the map system, so we'd need a VPN or whatnot.

Theoretically, it's possible by writing up a java executable that executes both the map server and the minecraft server on the dedicated, thus tricking the dedicated hosts systems into launching, and supporting, both. His idea of a VPN (virtual private network) would work in theory, but setting it up so that maybe one just pulls the map from the server and then converts it with a tool to a google map say once a day, fortnight or week or so no, then hosting the map somewhere, probably on the forums (it's doable, done it before) would be easier.

Interactive google maps style maps require some other programs and some extra scriptage

The other way to do it would be to use this, which is overviewer. It outputs the map in a google maps style html file which, to my recollection, can be added to a forum, tho, depending on the host, it might be challenging or not at all possible.

And the forum formatting is rather weird. Hyperlinks aren't highlighted in any way. Mind if I have a look at the back-end?
Sorry about the post spamming.
